This vehicle by actor and director Ben Stiller is mindless and farcical
fluff that does not intend to provide any scholarly wisdom. This is my kind
of movie. If you’re in the mood for a silly, no-brainer flick, this is the
perfect choice. Performances by the younger Stiller and his father Jerry, as
well as Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor, Will Ferrell, and a load of celebrity
cameos make this film a bundle of laughs.
Ben Stiller is Derek Zoolander, the most coveted male model in the world.
He may be beautiful, but he is missing a few brain cells. Quite a few, to be
exact. His awkward behavior provides a great deal of memorable one-liners.
Derek is upstaged by his nemesis, the stunning Hansel (Wilson), at a
fashion awards presentation, and his life tumbles into a downward spiral. As
Derek begins to look for a new direction, he is approached by fashion designer Mugatu (Ferrell) to promote a new fashion line. Derek accepts the offer, unaware that he will be brainwashed to assassinate the Prime Minister of Malaysia, who is against the use of sweatshop labor for the fashion industry. The suspicions of reporter Matilda Jeffries (Taylor) concerning Mugatu's hidden agenda convince her to stop Derek before it’s too late. Does she succeed? One will have to watch and see.
Don’t expect to be intellectually stimulated by the contents of this film. If you expect a ridiculous plot with hilarious performances, you’ll enjoy the ride.
