It’s not often that I can find a CD that I like well enough to listen to all of the tracks without skipping at least three of the songs on the disc. If I remember correctly, the last album I brought that I enjoyed listening to every track was Texas, however my opinion of music is about to change.
If you have never heard of Paris by Night, I strongly recommend you take the time to find out. This is a band formed of four members, Jeanine Acquart (lead singer and song writer), Vance Kowalik (drums), Robert Fields (bass), and Richard Lee (guitar).
The album is absolutely amazing. The group has an incredible ability to draw you to them, to make you believe in the words they sing; for a band, that is an incredible achievement. I found myself actually listening to the words instead of just using it as background music. Acquart’s songs reflect a sense of love and betrayal. A sort of emotional release in a beautiful pattern of poetic, passionate, seductive lyrics.
The band complements each other very well in this album. Jeanine’s powerful voice is backed by the sheer talents of Kowalik, Fields, and Lee. While listening to this CD, I decided to do some research about PBN and found out that this CD will be released in stores shortly. I happen to be the lucky one who already has a copy of this amazing album.
While playing this album, I noticed that each track has its own melody, which is more than I can say for artists such as Missy Elliot, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Shakira, or Kyle Minogue. Their tunes can really drag after hearing the same rhythm and tempo time and time again. I think these lead performers need to keep an eye out for Paris By Night and learn a few lessons about song writing.
The only disappointing thing about this album is that it is only 33 minutes long. I would have loved to have heard more songs. It would be nice to see PBN take the world by storm and become a very successful, well-known band. From listening to their music, I know they have the ability.
This dark, relaxing, seductive, exotic, and passionate album is going to be a top favourite in my music collection. On the album’s final song, Acqauart sings, “nothing lasts forever,” but I think I can safely say that Paris By Night is here to stay.
