The motivation is back folks! After seeing the Foo Fighters in concert, I decided to write the review that I was going to write about six months ago. There are two words that can sum up One by One: PURE ROCK!
Foo Fighters released this CD once Taylor Hawkins recovered from a near-death experience and Dave Grohl finished his short stint with Queens of the Stone Age. The songs that were produced rival those of the Foo’s The Colour and the Shape CD. One by One is equal if not better than that CD.
“All My Life” kicks off the album with its energetic flow. “Low” then follows it. The stoner-rock feel of QOTSA is easily heard in this song. Back to back, these two songs really give the CD life and keep the listener’s attention.
To make this CD even better, Queen’s guitarist Brian May was recruited to play guitar with Dave Grohl on “Tired of You.” The classic rock influence culminates on the very last song -- “Come Back.” This is the Foo Fighters’ “Stairway to Heaven.” It is a seven-minute escalade that demonstrates their understanding of PURE ROCK.
The Foo Fighters have shown what they are capable of doing with this CD. Once you purchase the CD, the only thing remaining is to see them in concert.
