During a recent
interview with John Legend on a Boston radio station, the hosts made several requests.
He had absolutely no trouble banging out everything that they asked for. It was then
that I fell in love.
This is one of the best albums I’ve found this
year. Legend’s vocal range is incredible and his piano stylings are a gorgeous melodic
waterfall.
There is a beautiful mix of sounds here. Some tracks are sexy
and romantic. Many combine a gospel sound with bit of a hip-hop/R&B curve, minus the
regressive lyrics. The result is pure magic.
Legend is joined by Kanye
West on a track titled “Number One,” a lovely rhythmic piece with some powerful backup
vocals. This is followed by “I Can Change” with Snoop Dogg, another great tune for
dancing, featuring some fabulous horn stylings. “Ordinary People” is a beautiful piece,
consisting of pure vocals and piano. This song truly demonstrates Legend’s ability to
carry his own.
My favorite track, “It Don’t Have To Change,” is a sweet,
nostalgic tune about a growing, changing family. Here Legend is joined by the rich,
soulful vocals of his family and it’s easy to see where he gets his talent.
