Stanley Jordan has mastered the two-handed hammering technique. By tapping strings against fret, he has taken guitar to a whole new level, making a single instrument wield the power of an entire band. Though the disc is mainly about strings, Jordan is backed by Charnett Moffett on bass and a very talented Dennard Kenwood on skins.

Initially I was skeptical about a couple of the tracks here, but I found myself pleasantly surprised with Jordan’s unique interpretation of “Stairway to Heaven.” It seemed mighty strange to have this tune on the same disc as “Over the Rainbow,” but Jordan pulls it off marvelously.

When listening to the title track, you’d swear you’re hearing a piano. This number is fluid, graceful and packed with sublime musicianship. A lovely rendition of John Coltrane’s “Impressions” is included here as well.

This collection is entirely instrumental and though it was recorded live, it was well mixed and the sound is remarkable. Jordan’s genius stylings are intricate, melodic, romantic and very likely to forever change the way you look at jazz guitar.
