Where have you been?
That’s the question I found myself asking over and over again as I watched the latest gem in the Comedy Central crown. Comedian Jim Breuer seemed to disappear for a while after his Half Baked days, but it’s now clear to me what he’s been doing all this time: living the material for his most recent stand-up show, Let’s Clear the Air.
I will admit that the show starts off a little slow, as Jim discusses his childhood and his SNL days. The bits are all funny; don’t get me wrong. They just don’t have the effortless flow and energy that’s present in the rest of the show. If these segments had been expanded with more material, they might have worked better.
However, the rest of Breuer’s comedy show more than makes up for its shaky start. It’s flawless in execution and downright hilarious. His impressions cover a variety of celebrities, including Ozzy Osbourne, Dave Chappelle, and Joe Pesci—and each and every one of them is just dead on. Not only does he create extremely funny renditions of celebrities, but he also mimics people from his personal life (especially his father) incredibly well.
While his impressions will leave your sides hurting, it’s Breuer’s stories of family and fatherhood that will leave you breathless and in tears from laughing so hard. Family life has never seemed so wildly entertaining until described by Jim Breuer. In fact, his stories of playing with his children are among the best in the show.
Everything on this DVD is funny—from the show itself to the extras (though sparse) and even the menu screens. Jim Breuer has left no wasted space on this DVD, and he’s filled it to the brim with comedic gold.
