Aardman Animations has long been known for their quirky stop-motion animated films. But while fans have fallen in love with their Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep films, there’s just something special about Wallace and Gromit. And in their latest adventure, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, the beloved characters find themselves battling an old nemesis.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl follows lovably bumbling inventor Wallace (voiced by Ben Whitehead) and his clever dog, Gromit, on yet another madcap adventure as Wallace’s latest revolutionary invention turns disastrous. When Wallace first unveiled his smart gnome, Norbot (Reece Shearsmith), the industrious little bot seemed like the solution to all of his financial hardships. But as Wallace sends Norbot out into the neighborhood to earn money for doing odd jobs, he attracts the attention of the local news—and also a criminal mastermind who’s determined to use the bot for his own nefarious purposes.

While Wallace proudly presents his new invention to the community, Gromit isn’t convinced. Gromit is always on the lookout for things that seem amiss—and that’s definitely the case with the robotic gnome, who somehow manages to build his own army of gnomes in the basement. As always, all of the human characters here are oblivious to what’s going on—especially Wallace and equally clueless Chief Inspector Mackintosh (Peter Kay), who’s too busy planning a big museum exhibit (and his retirement) to worry about insignificant things like a neighborhood crime spree.

As Gromit is once again forced to take matters into his own hands, the adventure plays out in a flurry of gnome puns, action movie stereotypes, and general quirkiness—along with Aardman’s usual blend of dry British wit and over-the-top wackiness. And while the studio’s last film, last year’s Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, wasn’t especially noteworthy, the latest Wallace & Gromit comedy is everything that the studio’s fans have come to expect from the lovable duo. It’s silly and action-packed—and though Norbot and his army are definitely more than a little creepy, this short animated adventure is a whole bunch of kooky fun for fans of all ages.

While Aardman has released a whole lot of spin-offs and side projects through the years, few have been able to come close to the lovable silliness of the studio’s original claymation duo. Whether you’re long-time fans or newcomers, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is a fun-filled pick for your next family movie night.

You can join this bumbling man and his brainy dog on their latest adventure when Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl arrives on Netflix on January 3, 2025.
