The Chic Shall Inherit the Earth is the last book in the All About Us young adult series. And, even though I have absolutely nothing in common with these well-to-do girls (except my faith), I’m going to miss Lissa, Gillian, Carly, Mac, and Shani.
Graduation at Spencer Academy looms on the horizon, and Lissa Mansfield has no idea what she’s going to do with the rest of her life. Her friends seem to have everything figured out, except for which college to choose from among all those that have accepted them. And then there’s Kaz—her best friend since grade school. Her feelings are all mixed up about him. Is he meant to be more than just her best friend? And will she figure it out in time, before she loses him completely?
When Lissa learns a shocking secret about Vanessa (her ultimate enemy), she finds herself reaching out to help. Her friends counsel her just to pray for Vanessa and leave it at that. After all, Vanessa is known to use her friends, then stab them in the back—and Vanessa has no love whatsoever for Lissa. But Lissa persists in reaching out because Vanessa really does need a friend to help her make it through their last year at Spencer Academy.
Shelley Adina has the ability to take you back to a time when things were fresh and brand new—when life had potential, the world was laid out at your feet, and the only problem was choosing which direction to take. Back then, romance was sweet, and it made your heart flutter (definitely no eye-rolling from me with this book). It’s nice to be taken back like that, and Ms. Adina does it effortlessly while working it all around a highly entertaining read.
Full of faith, love, and hope, Lissa, Gillian, Carly, Mac, and Shani lead by example—and this comes out ten-fold in The Chic Shall Inherit the Earth. When others would turn their backs, these girls reach out and try to make things better. You can’t read this book and not want to follow their example.
Shelley Adina is a wonderful author, whose books no one should miss (no matter what your age). I hope to see much more from her in the future.
