Loretta C. Rogers takes me back to an untamed time with such vivid imagery and historical accuracy that I feel as if I’m living the story. Her novels are infused with Wild West suspense and characters that walk off the pages and into your heart. No one should miss this wonderful e-book author.
Ms. Rogers is a native-born Florida Cracker who has lived there most of her life. She spends her time outside of writing reinventing recipes, and she might one day write a cookbook. She’s also passionate about keeping children and animals safe from abuse.
She hates snakes, and, when under stress, she always dreams about them. But there are also moments of intense laughter, as she discovered on a cruise with her daughter. An older man took it upon himself to parade in front of them wearing nothing but a pair of Speedos—definitely not a very pleasant sight. Later that evening, at dinner, one of the appetizers happened to be Cock-A-Leeke soup, which made them think of the guy in Speedos at the same time and sent them into gales of laughter, to the dismay of their dining companions.
When Ms. Rogers listens to music, she chooses artists like Enya or Celine Dion, but she finds music distracting while she’s writing. She prefers to write in silence, so she can listen to her characters’ voices inside her head.
Some of her favorite things include: motorcycle rides with her husband, listening to ocean waves crashing against the beach, watching birds at the bird feeder, baking lemon meringue pies for her grandson, and sharing time with her granddaughter.
On Writing, in Loretta C. Rogers’s Own Words
What or who inspires you to write?
Everything inspires me to write—billboard ads, a news article, a dream, or snatches of overheard conversations. As to who inspires me to write, that would be fans who ask when to expect the next book.
Why did you begin writing?
Innately, I’ve always wanted to write, but life as a wife, mother, teacher, woman’s court advocate didn’t leave me much time. When I retired from teaching, I made writing my new career.
Which author inspires you?
If I had to name one author, it would be Phyllis A. Whitney. However, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include Rosemary Rogers, Kathleen Woodiweiss, Louie L’Amour, and Zane Grey.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
Some might say writing “The End” is the most rewarding, but when I put my characters up against impossible odds, and then figure out how to rescue them, it’s the most rewarding for me.
Have you experienced writer’s block? And, if so, how did you cure it?
I haven’t actually experienced writer’s block. There are times when I think my muses have gone on vacation. If I reach a point in the story where I’m stumped, I take a break from the computer, eat a little peanut butter, drink a cup of hot tea, and maybe watch my favorite cooking show. I also find that I can work through a story problem when I think I’m asleep. Does that sound crazy?
When’s your next book due out, and what’s it about?
Due to double knee replacement surgery and all the rehab, I’m a little behind on my writing. My current WIP is nearly ready for my editor. It’s a historical romance that takes place during India’s Sapoy Rebellion.
I, for one, can’t wait for Ms. Loretta C. Rogers’s next historical romance. However, the rest of you can pick up a copy of Bannon’s Brides to find out why I consider her one of the best. Be sure to check out her website to learn more: LorettaCRogers.com.
