Kids today have all kinds of animated TV options. There are adventure-loving pups, pint-sized superheroes, precocious young doctors, and so much more. But there’s just something undeniably charming about the classic fairytale characters in Disney Junior’s Goldie & Bear—and now young fans can bring these lovable characters wherever they go with the DVD collection Best Fairytale Friends.
Goldie & Bear: Best Fairytale Friends follows the adventures of Goldie Locks (voiced by Natalie Lander) and Bear (Georgie Kidder), who became the best of friends after Goldie broke into the Bear family’s house and caused all kinds of problems. Now these unlikely pals spend their days together—whether they’re caring for a baby dragon, jumping over the moon on the back of a cow, trying to get the giant’s missing shoe back from the family that’s moved in, saving their tiny babysitter from getting washed down the river, or trying to outrun the Big Bad Wolf.
This DVD release is loaded with fairytale adventures. While some DVD sets of animated shows feature just a few cartoons, Best Fairytale Friends includes seven two-part episodes, for a total of 14 stories—so young fans are sure to find some favorites in the collection.
Each episode is filled with catchy songs and fun-filled encounters with familiar characters—from fairytale characters like Little Red Riding Hood, the Three Little Pigs, and Jack and his giant to nursery rhyme regulars like Humpty Dumpty, Jack and Jill, and the cow who jumped over the moon. It’s definitely a jumble of classic characters from different sources, but it makes for a land filled with recognizable figures that will appeal to young viewers. It’s cute and colorful and imaginative—and while it may not be the kind of clever, comical series that parents will love as much as their little ones, it’s also not the kind of grating adventure that will make parents cringe whenever their kids request another viewing.
And, of course, Goldie & Bear isn’t just about some cute stories featuring familiar characters. Most of the episodes offer subtle morals and lessons, too, whether they’re teaching kids about problem solving, friendship, or doing the right thing—but it never comes off as too strong or too preachy. The result is simple, lovable kids’ entertainment with a side of life lessons—and a DVD collection that you won’t mind letting your kids watch over and over again.
