If I Had a Hammer…

Australian police shared video from a failed burglary involving a man who chose a hammer to smash his way into a café.
Victoria Police said the video, recorded just after 6 p.m. on March 3 by security cameras at the Burnside Heights café, shows two men pull up in a Nissan Maxima sedan that had been reported stolen. A man with his face covered gets out of the vehicle and starts using a hammer to strike the glass door of the café. The man succeeds only in making a small hole in the door, and his attempts to expand the opening prove to be slow-going. The man eventually gives up and gets back into the car, but not before struggling with the locked door of the vehicle.
Police said the two men are also believed to have been involved in a home invasion and armed robbery the previous day.
The Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit is attempting to identify the suspects, police said.
They may want to check their Dumb and Dumber Files.

A Florida man wound up in jail after his dashboard camera showed police more than he intended.
The Palm Beach Post reports that after 25-year-old Xavier Moran was involved in a crash on April 5, he told a sheriff’s deputy that he had been cut off by another driver and could prove it with his dashboard camera. He then signed a consent waiver to search the camera.
When the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputy reviewed the footage, he saw Moran burglarizing a beauty store. Authorities say the video showed Moran taking a baseball bat from the trunk and someone using the bat to break the glass door to the store.

While You Were Out

Louisiana police say a woman came home to discover a naked stranger in her tub, eating her Cheetos while taking a bath.
A Monroe police affidavit says 29-year-old Evelyn Washington was arrested on burglary and property damage charges.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that a responding officer found “a full tub of water and a plate of food along with half-eaten Cheetos belonging to the victim on the toilet next to the tub.”
Washington told the homeowner and police that an unknown male had told her to break into the house. Police found a tall ice chest under a broken window. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer.
Speaking of clarity, it’s good to know the half eaten Cheetos—not the victim—were found on the toilet.
