If you liked the Mad Max films, you’ll enjoy Mel in this film. You need quite a strong stomach to deal with some of the scenes in this movie, though, and you’ll also need to be a huge fan of black humour — because this film is full of it. Supporting artist Lucy Liu brings some much-needed comedy to the film by portraying a dominatrix.
Payback is really one of those films that you can watch it and watch it again just for the sake of watching it, really. But there’s nothing all that great about it. There are no extras on the DVD, and the quality of the picture itself is poor.
This film is choppy, cheesy, and crude — and no one’s laughing at it. Seriously — save your money with this film. If you’re in the mood for a Mel Gibson movie, rent/buy Braveheart or one of the Lethal Weapon films instead.
