Read Time:1 Minute, 33 Second
I recently borrowed
A Fish Called Wanda from our local library. When I got up to the front desk, the
older (and typically straight-faced) librarian started to giggle (quietly, though—it was,
after all, the library). “This movie…” she began, still giggling, “well, you must
have seen it before.” I smiled and told her that I had, and she just kept on laughing
and telling me just how funny the movie is.
The point of my little story
is this: if A Fish Called Wanda can make even our librarian laugh, you’re sure to
find it to be absolutely hilarious. (No offence to librarians—please don’t send me hate
mail—I’m only joking.)
A Fish Called Wanda has a little of
everything—action, adventure, humor, crime, romance, and cute little puppy dogs. (And
did I mention humor?)
John Cleese and Michael Palin of Monty Python fame
join Jamie Lee Curtis and Kevin Kline for a hilarious film about the perfect crime that
didn’t go quite as planned. Wanda (Curtis) and her boyfriend-posing-as-her-brother, Otto
(Kline), join with Wanda’s other boyfriend, George, and his stuttering hit man,
Ken (Palin), to rid a London jeweler of millions of pounds in diamonds. Not trusting his
partners in crime, George moves the diamonds. At the same time, Wanda and Otto,
determined to have the money for themselves, turn George in. Once Wanda and Otto
discover that the diamonds are gone, it’s up to Wanda to figure out where they’re hidden.
And if that means that she has to seduce George’s barrister (Cleese), so be
it.
A Fish Called Wanda is comedy at its best—with four stars
giving four-star performances. If you somehow managed to make it this long without
seeing this movie, take it from my librarian—it’s really funny.
