The title Simply Yoga says it all. Yolanda Pettinato
demonstrates yoga poses on a carpet in a blue room. Personally, I find the videos with
crashing waves in the background add to my relaxation. (In this video, the crashing waves
only appear at the break between each pose.) There is no music during the workout, and
there are no other people to demonstrate modifications—although you probably wouldn’t
need modifications, since most of the poses are pretty basic.
One
positive feature with this video is that it gives you the name of the pose and the
benefit that you will get from it. It also takes you slowly through the pose, giving you
the chance to get the most out of it. The explanations are so detailed that you can
probably do the pose without looking at the television screen, unlike other videos where
I crane my neck trying to see what they’re doing. Yolanda is also specific about when to
inhale and exhale—something very important when doing yoga, but lacking in some yoga
videos.
A book is also included with the set. The book demonstrates the
yoga poses from the video, as well as many other poses. It also explains yoga breathing
and meditation.
So if you just want a basic video to help you learn
the poses, have a look at Simply Yoga. However, if you’re looking for a fast-paced
video with music to keep you motivated, and modifications to take you from beginner to
advanced, you should look elsewhere.
