This is great ska with Latin twists woven
throughout. The lyrics are a melodic mix of English and Spanish. Some are sweet, others
dark or downright scary, some are humorous and others are sexy, some are all of the
above, but each track tells an interesting story with a healthy dose of passion. The
vocals are tight and there’s some great backup.
The sound is upbeat
throughout and the tunes are perfect for dancing or working out. My cardio sessions
always fly when I’m listening to this disc.
There is a great deal of fine
musicianship here. The guitar and bass kick and there are some excellent horn solos
laced into many of the tracks.
“What I Got” has a great beat and some
wonderful guitar solos. “Santeria” is catchy with an exotic Latin accent. “Get Ready”
is heavy with some excellent percussion. “Caress Me Down” is steamy, tropical,
delightfully explicit and great for dancing.
Because of the unfortunate
death of the lead singer/guitarist, Brad Nowell, from a heroin overdose in 1996, this
band wasn’t around nearly long enough, but their sound lives on as some of the finest
music released in the ‘90s.
