Dear Christine,
I don’t have a question; I’d just like to share my feelings.
I’m 41, dating a 27-year-old man. Admittedly, it started off as a physical thing, but now my younger man and I really care about each other. I’d just like to ask people to stop gawking at us when we’re out together. — OLDER WOMAN – BALTIMORE, MARYLAND
Dear Older Woman,
This type of double standard is ridiculous. Men have been coupling with younger women forever, and all you ever hear is “Atta boy!”
If Demi Moore, Susan Sarandon, and Goldie Hawn can do it, why can’t you? In fact, studies are showing that today, one-third of single women over 40 are dating younger men.
Don’t worry about turning heads. If I see you out with your younger man, I’ll probably do a double-take. But rest assured, I’ll be thinking “Atta girl!”
Dear Christine,
My friends and I have followed your column for a while and think you do a great job advising singles in the city. Here’s our question: We’re a group of women ages 45-55. We are all professionals who are stable, intelligent, independent. We take care of ourselves and like to have fun. We’d like to know where the men our age are. We’ve tried singles dances, bars; we frequent events, but we still don’t find them. You seem to have insight into the singles scene in the city. Do you have any ideas on where we can find the good men? — RIKA O & FRIENDS – LONDON, ONTARIO
Dear Rika O & Friends,
I can’t tell you where they are, but I can tell you where they aren’t. They aren’t in your living room. Good for you for recognizing this and being willing to get out there to meet people. Below is another similar letter with more thoughts.
Dear Christine,
I am a 49-year-old professional woman who is newly separated. I have no single friends. Where can I meet men and women in the same predicament as myself? I need help fast! — ROSEMARY – LONDON, ONTARIO
Dear Rosemary,
It seems men and women of all ages and preferences want to know where the best places to meet people are. Rather than listing clubs and groups that can be found in the newspaper or in the phone book, I’ll simply share my overall thoughts on the subject.
Focus on quality over quantity. Go to places that you like and just enjoy life. You can’t chase love; it will come when the time is right. Sure, if you want to meet herds of men, you could go to tractor pulls or league night at the bowling alley. But are you really going to want to spend your quality time inhaling diesel fuel or working on your 3/10 split?
