(Columbus, January 6, 2011) Christopher Nolan’s Inception was named Best Film in the Central Ohio Film Critics Association’s 9th annual awards, which recognize excellence in the film industry for 2010. The film also won three other awards. Nolan was honored for his work behind the camera with the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay prizes. Composer Hans Zimmer won Best Score.
Inception’s four wins match No Country for Old Men (2007), Up in the Air (2009), and Inglourious Basterds (2009) for the most awards given to an individual film in the nine years the Columbus-area critics organization has been in existence.
True Grit, which finished sixth on the Best Film list, received two awards: Best Supporting Actress (Hailee Steinfeld) and Best Cinematography (Roger Deakins).
James Franco also claimed two wins. Franco was tabbed as Best Actor for his performance in 127 Hours and Actor of the Year, which honors an exemplary body of 2010 work that also included Howl, Date Night, and Eat Pray Love.
Rounding out the performance-based awards are Best Actress Natalie Portman for Black Swan; Best Supporting Actor Geoffrey Rush in The King’s Speech; Chloe Moretz as Breakthrough Film Artist for her noteworthy turns in Let Me In, Kick-Ass, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid; and The Fighter for Best Ensemble.
Other winners include The Social Network’s Aaron Sorkin for Best Adapted Screenplay; Best Documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop; Best Foreign Language Film Mother (Madeo); Best Animated Film Toy Story 3; and Please Give as Best Overlooked Film.
