You might be a redneck if…you tend to spend your time collecting satellite dishes and fly swatters to bring back to your trailer….
You Might Be a Redneck if… is a pretty basic board game. In fact, even the reddest of rednecks should be able to catch on without a problem. To begin, each player starts with a redneck game piece and a trailer (home base) of his or her own. When it’s your turn, one of your opponents takes a card from the deck and reads part of a Foxworthy redneck joke. Then it’s your job to fill in the blank by choosing one of three possible punch lines. Depending on whether or not you’re able to guess the official Foxworthy answer, a redneck on the bottom of the card will tell you how many spaces to move your redneck around the board. The object is to move your way around the board, making stops at stores (or your mother-in-law’s trailer) to pick up things every redneck needs—like a hound dog, a satellite dish, a TV, and more. Along the way, you’ll land on spaces that will direct you to pick a “Dumb Luck” card, which will instruct you (or one of your opponents) to travel to places on the board to either pick up or give back an item—or you could have to perform another task, like naming all of the hound dogs.
Once you’ve collected the six necessary items, you have to hightail it back to your trailer. The first redneck to gather all six items and make it home to his or her trailer is the winner.
If you’re looking for a new and unusual board game, this isn’t really it. It’s a lot like games you’ve played before—and it’s not much of a challenge. What makes this game stand out, though, is the humor. The illustrations are perfect, and the jokes will keep you laughing from turn to turn. I found, however, that it’s really difficult to guess the correct punch line—because, of the three possible answers, there are always at least two that are appropriate (if not all three). And, often, my favorite punch line wasn’t the right one. Most of the time, you’ll just have to guess.
If you’re a Foxworthy fan, you’ll love this game. It’s an easy, sitting-around-with-your-friends kind of game that will give you more than a few laughs. For the rest of you, though, the novelty will probably wear off after you play it once or twice.
