If you’re looking for some fine holiday music that is certain to please even the toughest crowd, you will not be disappointed with the GRP Christmas Collection – Vol. III.
It opens with Tom Scott’s spectacular rendition of “Feliz Navidad” on alto, tenor and bari sax. This is a magnificent celebration of wind that absolutely forces you to dance. Next up is B.B. King belting out “Merry Christmas Baby” in that signature rich baritone. Things soften up when Ramsey Lewis tickles the ivories with a gentle, breezy interpretation of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing.” And David Benoit follows up by wailing on the ivories with a wonderful version of “O’ Little Town of Bethlehem.” This track opens with a gorgeous French horn solo by Sally Bonebrake. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” features some delightful vocals by Diane Schuur and a beautiful flugelhorn solo by Chuck Findley.
A friend at work loaned me this disc and, after hearing it, I’ll most definitely fill you in on Volumes I and II. Meanwhile, this will make a wonderful stocking stuffer and a perfect mix for your holiday gathering.
