Since Twisted Tails II was too big for just one volume, they broke it up into two. Time on Our Hands is the first volume of Twisted Tails II (see my review of .nightsandweekends.com/articles/07/NW0700413.php>volume two). These tales will boggle your mind—and they just might make you want to time travel…or not. Below is a handful to whet your appetite.
Can one soul, dead or alive, make a difference in the grand scheme of life? Find out in “Epoch” by Terence West. No matter what you do, you can’t change the past—because someone else always wants it to stay the same. This story has so much atmosphere that I felt as if I was right smack in the middle of things. Mr. West knows how to bring a story to life.
Phil Wayman feels his life could have been better if he had chosen the other woman in “The Art of Time Travel” by Joyce K. Jensen. Perhaps the other woman wasn’t the problem. Phil is in for a rude awakening, which made me laugh with delight.
In “The Librarian Who Wasn’t” by Lea Schizas, an ancient book written by Merlin the magician sucks you in and spits your dead body back out if you’re found unworthy. Detective Mike Anderson goes in after his partner with a little help from the strange librarian. This tale is captivating and imaginative, and it would make a great full-length novel.
A black stone travels from time period to time period, causing death and mayhem, in “Heart of Stone” by Jamie A. Hughes. Will the men and women who are obsessed with possessing the stone ever stop fighting over it and unite the way they’re supposed to?
I enjoy each volume of Twisted Tails, and this one is no different. Each story takes you down a harrowing path that bends your mind around the unexpected. You’ll be horrified and surprised, and you’ll even get a laugh or two. I found myself pondering the logistics of time travel until I made myself crazy trying to decide if it’s possible.
If you haven’t picked up a copy of Twisted Tails II, or any of the other volumes, I urge you to do so. Even if you’re like me, and you’re not a big fan of short stories, I guarantee you’ll enjoy these. Each story snags you from the start and keeps you hanging on. I promise you won’t be bored.
