If you have a young dinosaur enthusiast in your life, then Dinosaurs Extinct? will make a great addition to your board game collection.
Players start their dinosaurs at the beginning of the board, in the Prehistoric Era. Then they roll the die to move their pieces a number of spaces on the board in order to be the first to reach the finish line in the 21st Century and win the game.
Each player also has a Dino Life card. An illustration of a living dinosaur is depicted on the top of the card. The picture is broken into three sections, all of which flip up to show a portion of the dinosaur’s skeleton underneath. One of the conditions of winning the game is that you must keep the dinosaur on your Dino Life card “alive,” meaning that none of his bones are visible.
As players travel around the board, they face various hazards, from fighting other players for territory to natural disasters. If you’re unable to avoid these hazards, you’ll have to flip up a portion of your Dino Life card to expose your dinosaur’s bones. If, at any time, the entire skeleton is visible on your Dino Life card, you must return your playing piece to the beginning of the board.
The game also comes with small plastic dinosaur figurines that don’t have any direct impact on game play, but older children will enjoy playing with them separately—or you can use them in lieu of the game tokens.
Dinosaurs Extinct? is a great game for young children because it’s easy for them to understand; the rules are simple and straightforward. Additionally, parents will appreciate the fact that the playing pieces are all large, making it easy for children to handle and grip them.
The addition of the Dino Life cards is one of the most unique aspects of this game because it makes game play more interesting than just moving pieces on a board. Children have a vested interest in keeping their dinosaur alive. And, as a result, they care about the survival of their playing piece, instead of simply focusing on the finish line.
With a little bit of imagination and a roll of the die, these dinosaurs will seem far from extinction as you play this fun family board game.
