When the Freedom Project’s founder, Robert Graham, offers Casey Jordan a million-dollar annual pledge to her legal clinic for taking on two cases a year, she can’t refuse. The Freedom Project is a charity that’s dedicated to helping wrongfully convicted prisoners get exoneration. Through DNA testing more and more prisoners are proven innocent.
Casey’s first assignment takes her to a small town in New York to look into the case of Dwayne Hubbard, who’s almost twenty years into a life sentence for raping and killing a young college student. All she has to do is get his DNA and run the tests, but she encounters deadly resistance. Someone doesn’t want Dwayne Hubbard set free, and they’re willing to kill to keep him right where he is.
With the help of a high-profile reporter, Jake Carlson, and a young lawyer with connections, Casey uncovers a jumble of lies and corruption within the system. Before long, she begins to wonder who she can trust and whether she’ll make it out of her first case with the Freedom Project without landing in jail—or, worse, six feet under.
Though his last novel, Above the Law, was a bit more thrilling and fast-paced, author Tim Green continued to impress me with his second Casey Jordan legal thriller. Filled with twists and turns and shocking revelations, False Convictions will draw you in and show you the shady side of the courtroom. You’ll never really know who Casey can actually trust, upping the story’s intensity until you’re clutching the edges of the novel in suspense.
Green’s characters are always fresh and interesting, which gives the plot a little more edge. Casey can be assertive and aggressive without making her an unlikable character. She fights for the rights of the underprivileged, and she puts all of her legal might into it. I’d hire her to represent me.
Tim Green is an author that I plan to keep my eye on for a long time to come. He’s hit his stride with Casey Jordan—and, if he keeps it up, I believe he could one day leave James Patterson in the dust with his thrillers.
