Romantic suspense author, Debra Lee, is one of those writers who turn out to be a pleasant surprise, like a book you find on the bottom shelf that makes you glad you looked a little harder for something good to read. Ms. Lee blends romance, mystery and suspense into a very satisfying way to spend your extracurricular time.
Born in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, Ms. Lee spent her time in the backyard playing with the neighborhood kids. Being somewhat of a tomboy, she played baseball and helped build a tree house where they later staged a play she directed.
As a child she learned to play the piano, and since she had a very strict teacher, she can still remember how to read the music even if she hasn’t played in over a year.
Her favorite things are reading and writing, but she loves spending time with her husband, sons and grandsons. She also likes working in her flower garden, going boating and staying at their campsite along the river.
On Writing in Ms. Lee’s Own Words
What or who inspires you to write?
I’m not sure. When I get an idea I just need to write about it.
Why did you begin writing?
I began writing when my sons were young and I was a stay-at-home mom. I’m a night person, and when my husband and sons slept, I began creating imaginary worlds on paper. Guess I was bored.
What author inspires you?
No one particular author. But I’m impressed by those who can put out more than two good books a year.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
A big smile of satisfaction usually appears on my face when I type those last two words of a manuscript, the end.
Have you experienced writer’s block, and if so, how did you cure it?
I’ve never experienced writer’s block. My problem is finding the amount of time I want to write.
When is your next book due out, and what’s it about?
I don’t have a release date because I’m in the process of shopping the book. The tentative title is Taken. Here’s a blurb for the book: In the fictitious little town of Watery, Pennsylvania, the district attorney’s personal secretary, Mary Murray, never planned to become a single mom or a suspect in her infant’s disappearance, but she plans to find Jena before she suffers the same gruesome fate Mary’s younger brother had when he was taken twelve years earlier.
