Since celebrities seem to be doing a pretty good job of keeping themselves out of trouble this week, there hasn’t been much to talk about on the gossip front (of course, we would start our blog on a slow entertainment week…). So, instead, let’s talk about a wicked cool new Web site that just went live to the public today.
It’s called Hulu (http://www.hulu.com), and it’s an online source of all kinds of TV episodes and movies and things — all free and on-demand. There are new shows (like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which currently offers four full episodes), and there are old shows (like 22 episodes of WKRP in Cincinnati). And you can watch them whenever you want. Really! I’m watching WKRPright now!
Oh, yeah…and did I mention the movies? Yep. Hulu has movies, too. Good movies like The Jerk, The Usual Suspects, and October Sky (and if good movies aren’t your thing, there are a few bad movies, too). There’s other stuff, too — clips, commercials, interviews, and more. And it’s all free! Sure, there are a few commercials in there, but that’s a pretty small price to pay, if you ask me.
Though Hulu’s collection isn’t quite all-encompassing (yet), there’s plenty here to keep you entertained for a while. In fact, I’m pretty sure I already have about two days’ worth of stuff in my queue, just waiting to be watched.
So if you miss some of your old favorite TV shows (like Arrested Development or even Alfred Hitchcock Presents), you can check them out at Hulu. And if you’ve been missing out on some new show that all of your friends have been talking about, you can head to Hulu and get caught up. Thanks to Hulu, you won’t be the watercooler outcast anymore.
Kristin Dreyer Kramer has been writing in some form or another (usually when she was supposed to be doing something else) since the ripe old age of ten—when she, her cousin, and their two Cabbage Patch Dolls formed the Poo Authors’ Club. After a short career in advertising, Kristin got sick of always saying nice things about stuff that didn’t deserve it—so now she spends her days criticizing things, and she’s much happier for it.
Since creating NightsAndWeekends.com in February of 2002, Kristin has spent her life surrounded by piles and piles of books and movies—so many that her office has become a kind of entertainment obstacle course.
As if her writing and editing responsibilities for N&W.com weren’t enough to keep her out of trouble, Kristin also hosts a number of weekly radio shows: Reel Discovery, Shelf Discovery, and On the Marquee. She’s also a proud member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (CriticsChoice.com), the Central Ohio Film Critics Association (COFCA.org), the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS.org), and the Women Film Critics Circle (WFCC.Wordpress.com).
Kristin lives in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband, Paul, and their daughter, Anna. She welcomes questions, comments, and fan mail at kdk@nightsandweekends.com.
