This edition of Stolen from the Headlines covers a mother/son dispute that involved flying crockery, an alleged burglar that claimed a supernatural personage had set him up, and an Alaskan village that lost their Internet and cable TV service on New Year’s Eve.
Mama Said

After a violent argument with his mother over washing dirty dishes, a Tennessee man might be facing a domestic assault charge.
The mother of the unnamed 23-year-old man refused to return his cell phone charger until he finished washing the dishes, and the man began breaking things in the kitchen. After officers responded to his 41-year-old mother’s call for help, the man “admitted to throwing a glass in the sink, breaking it, and also slamming the door of the dishwasher, causing minor damage,” Officer Stuart Ogg wrote in a report. The man also allegedly chased his mother into a bedroom. She hid there until police arrived. Following the incident, the man attempted to leave but couldn’t start his car.
Probably not a wheel man in the making.

Police arrested Angel Meza for the alleged burglary of a woman’s Arizona City home on Monday. Meza told them that the “devil” set him up.
Meza, 36, went on to say that the Prince of Darkness had put a handgun and other stolen property on him. Deputies found Meza in the backyard holding a handgun. He allegedly took the gun, watches and other items from the woman’s home.
Meza’s attorney is planning to use what is known in legal circles as the Flip Wilson Defense: “The Devil made me do it!”
Quote of the Year

A Year’s Eve reveler accidentally shot a fiber-optic cable and caused some residents of an Alaskan village to lose their Internet and cable TV service.
According to Ralph Eller, owner of Yukon Telephone and Supervisions Cable TV, New Year’s Eve revelers in the town of Tanana traditionally shoot guns into the air to celebrate the new year. One of the revelers apparently was not paying attention and shot through the fiber-optic cable that brings Internet service to the town of about 300, the Fairbanks (Alaska) Daily News-Miner reported. Eller said the town has been without Internet and about 20 residents have been without cable TV service since the incident. He said the damage can’t be fixed until the proper parts arrive and the repair work will take about three days. The total cost to repair the damage was estimated at $10,000.
“You can’t fix stupid,” Eller said of the incident.
