This soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy has the delightfully messy sound purveying
the aura of an adolescent’s recently-cleaned (but by no means perfect)
room. In that way, it’s the perfect accompaniment to a rather unusual coming-of-age
movie.
Like a slightly disorganized room, it’s a bit messy but in a
comfortable way. The soundtrack has a distinctive sound—it has a bit of
a lovely fifties-optimistic-rock meets acoustic-alternative thing going on.
When you’re looking for a happy-go-lucky acoustic set, this is a good
one to pick up. One worth adding to your collection. It manages to strike a
balance between instrumental numbers and sung numbers in a startlingly carefree
sort of way.
One warning: you may want to listen to this music when you’re already
happy. It’s the sort of music that may very well add to your irritation,
depression, or anger (and make you want to throw it against the wall) if you
listen to it when you’re already in a bad mood. It’s happy music rather
than pick-me-up music.
But it really is the perfect accompaniment to a sunny summer afternoon. Just
make sure you’re in a good mood first.
