If you’re the kind of person who can’t take your mind off of that move
you made in backgammon or chess, and you spend more time devising your next strategy than
finishing that report for the boss, then this is the game for you.
Chebache is a combination of checkers, backgammon, and chess.
The
goal is to get all of your players to Finish before your opponent, or to trap your
opponent’s King in Chebache. Both players have their own movement paths, but some areas
are shared, which means you can land on your opponent’s pieces and send them back to
Start. You can also stack pieces on top of each other. If your opponent has one piece and
you have two or more stacked, your opponent can’t land on you.
You can
also capture your opponent in Chebache by trapping an opponent’s piece on certain spots
on the board. If you trap your opponent in Chebache, you must say “Chebache,” giving your
opponent a warning and a chance to escape. If your opponent can’t escape, you can send
his or her piece(s) back to Start. If your opponent has more than one piece stacked, all
pieces are sent back to Start.
There are many rules and strategies with
this game. You can start with a simpler version of the rules and then introduce more
rules (such as the ability to move backwards on certain squares) once you’ve mastered the
initial rules.
You can also play the game online and learn new strategies
at highergames.com. When you play online, you can
activate Help, which will put the player’s movement path on the board, allowing you to
learn the path of each player. The game board itself does not have the movement paths on
it. Each player has a card with his or her own movement path. This makes it difficult to
see what your opponent’s next move may be.
This isn’t the kind of game
you break out with a bunch of your friends and try to figure it out with a crowd of
people watching. This is the kind of game you play with a friend for years, constantly
challenging each other’s intellect. The more you play, the more strategies you can
develop, so the game is always challenging.
