The Family Jewels will
give you a whole new perspective on your parents’ music. Saturday Nights features
1950s do-wop that’s clean, masterful, and rich with impeccable vocal
harmonies.
This disc offers a tight mix of some of Boston’s finest
musicians rendering a hip-swinging version of The Colts’ “Lips Red as Wine,” along with
several originals worthy of as much fame as the covers. “Gospel Wheel” was written,
clearly from the heart, by Boston veteran guitarist and vocalist Dave
Champagne.
Steve (Platinum Daddy) Sadler rocks on lap steel,
mandolin, and vocals, and The Tim Gearan Band’s Paul Ahlstrand offers skillful saxophone
stylings. A cover of The Williams Brothers’ “Young Girl” features Dana Colley of
Boston’s Morphine on baritone sax.
Produced by Andy Mazzone, an
outstanding upright bass man and vocalist, The Family Jewels’ Saturday Night,
available at hi-n-dry.com, is
guaranteed to have even the toughest crowd rocking.
