Read Time:1 Minute, 53 Second
From time to time, every grown-up
stops to take a look at his or her life—and to wonder, How the heck did this
happen? We look back on our crazy, carefree days—when we didn’t have a care in the
world. Then we look at ourselves—at our concerns about mortgage payments and high blood
pressure, at our receding hairlines and expanding waistlines, at the crow’s feet that
seemed to appear overnight—and we wonder where those carefree days
went.
Beanie (Vince Vaughn), a husband and father of two who owns a chain
of speaker stores, Frank (Will Ferrell), who just tied the knot and dove head-first into
a world of bread makers and Saturday afternoons at Home Depot, and Mitch (Luke Wilson),
who just found out that his girlfriend was having an affair
with…well…anybody…decide to recapture those carefree days. Mitch moves into a
house on a college campus and the guys decide to start their own fraternity—one in which
the brothers are everything from loser college students to middle-aged businessmen to the
elderly. But they soon find themselves setting aside the keg and fighting to keep their
fraternity from being shut down by Dean Pritchard (Jeremy Piven), who still holds an old
grudge against Beanie, Frank, and Mitch.
Old School is a new Animal House
with old guys. It’s a bit crude at times (okay—at lots of times), and it’s definitely
irreverent—but I have to admit that it’s also absolutely hilarious. I actually sat down
to watch this movie totally expecting it to be just too stupid for me. But I was wrong.
It was just the right amount of stupid for me. At times, the humor caught me off-guard
(which leads me to recommend that you not drink milk while watching this movie, since
it’s quite likely to come out of your nose in such situations), and I found myself
laughing until it hurt.
If you enjoy low-brow humor and can handle
seeing images of Will Ferrell’s rear as he streaks through campus, you’ll love Old
School. If nothing else, it’ll make you forget about mortgage payments and receding
hairlines for a couple of hours…
