Bob (Matt Damon) and Walt (Greg Kinnear)
are brothers, joined just above the hip, who have promised to not hold each other back.
The brothers own and operate a Martha’s Vineyard hamburger joint, but Walt decides that
he wants to make it as an actor in Hollywood. So they leave behind the people who are
used to their condition and travel west to chase a dream.
When Bob and
Walt get to Hollywood, they get laughed out of every single audition. Then they meet
Cher by accident, and she decides to use the brothers on her television show to get her
out of a contract she hates. But her plan backfires as the television show becomes a
hit.
Along the way, Bob also gets to meet his Internet girlfriend—who
doesn’t know that’s he’s hooked to his brother.
The jokes aren’t really as
funny as they had the potential to be, but Damon and Kinnear do a great job of getting
the most out of them. They try to get the audience to connect with them—no matter how
hard that may be. Cher is funny playing herself, and the tons of cameos are good, too.
There are some good laughs to be had in this movie, but it’s just not as gut-busting
funny as it could have been.
If Stuck on You comes to free TV, go
ahead and watch it, but don’t make a trip to the video store just to pick it up.
