During my days of listening to classic rock radio, I remember
once thinking that if I ever heard Credence Clearwater Revival or Santana again in my
life, it would be too soon, so overplayed were their hits. This disc has completely
changed that.
Carlos Santana and his amazingly fluent guitar stylings are
joined here by an all-star cast of musicians including Dave Matthews, Everlast, Eric Clapton, Rob
Thomas and Lauryn Hill. The result is pure magic.
You’ll recognize “Put
Your Lights On,” featuring Everlast and “Smooth” with Rob Thomas. The latter is the kind
of track that absolutely forces me to dance.
“Africa Bamba,” another
great piece for dancing, is actually a Spanish number with wonderfully exotic strings and
lyrics. Similar and equally stunning are “(Da Le) Yaleo,” the opening track, “Corazon
Espinado” and “Primavera.”
There is something for everyone here. This
disc is packed with diverse and synergistic style and a combination of passion and genius
that is certain to give even the most discerning listener a music high that will easily
rival that of an army of endorphins.
