If you’ve got a few
minutes and a little bit of table space (like the size of the tray on an airplane seat),
then you’ve got all it takes to play Cinq-o, the new dice game from the makers of UNO.
Cinq-o is a tiny go-anywhere game that fits in a case on your key chain.
You get six dice—five numbered dice, numbered 1 through 6, and one special hi-lo die,
which shows 1, 2, and 3 with either an up arrow (hi) or a down arrow (lo). The object is
to get either the highest score possible on your five numbered dice and a hi number on
the hi-lo die or the lowest score possible on your five numbered dice along with a lo
number on the hi-lo die—and you have five rolls of the dice to do so. Once your turn is
up, you use the included scoring card to determine your score, and it’s your opponent’s
turn to roll the dice. The first player to reach a score of 100 is the
winner.
Fans of Yahtzee will want to
pick up Cinq-o, too. The two are similar—you roll the dice and try to get a certain
combination of numbers (in fact, Cinq-o even includes a few suspiciously Yathzee-like
rules for rolling a straight or five-of-a-kind). Both are games that are much more about
luck than they are about skill. But since Cinq-o requires just a little bit of space and
a little bit of time, it’s a great game to play while you’re waiting for dinner to be
ready…or on the plane…or in your hotel room. It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s relatively
brainless…it’s my kind of game.
