Read Time:1 Minute, 35 Second
Recently graduated from law school and eagerly planning her wedding to Emmett Richmond (Luke Wilson), Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) is happy to be settling into her new life in Boston—and her new job at a big law firm. But an attempt to find the mother of her Chihuahua, Bruiser, (so she can be invited to the wedding, of course) leads Elle to a gruesome realization: Bruiser’s mom is a test animal, locked up and used for testing cosmetics. Determined to set Bruiser’s mom—and other animals like her—free, Elle decides it’s her mission to fight against animal testing.
When her zeal gets her fired from her job, Elle uses her sorority connections to snag a position in Washington, D.C.—the place where she’s positive she can turn a bill into a law and save Bruiser’s mom. But the perky new girl in town has a lot to prove—and she’s got to make a lot of connections and convince a lot of people to help her pass Bruiser’s Bill before her wedding.
As I said in my review, Legally Blonde was a fun brainless comedy. It’s a guilty pleasure if ever there was one. But there definitely is such a thing as too much of a good thing—and this is it. Witherspoon’s naïve blonde perkiness pushes the limits of the annoying meter, and the absurdity of the whole story is just too much to stomach. I made it through the whole movie, but I wouldn’t recommend that anyone else should attempt to do the same. You could just roll your eyes right out of your head.
Legally Blonde was a fun chick flick—in an over-the-top, silly kind of way—but the sequel is so painfully over-the-top that it could possibly cause permanent damage. Don’t risk it.
Kristin Dreyer Kramer has been writing in some form or another (usually when she was supposed to be doing something else) since the ripe old age of ten—when she, her cousin, and their two Cabbage Patch Dolls formed the Poo Authors’ Club. After a short career in advertising, Kristin got sick of always saying nice things about stuff that didn’t deserve it—so now she spends her days criticizing things, and she’s much happier for it.
Since creating NightsAndWeekends.com in February of 2002, Kristin has spent her life surrounded by piles and piles of books and movies—so many that her office has become a kind of entertainment obstacle course.
As if her writing and editing responsibilities for N&W.com weren’t enough to keep her out of trouble, Kristin also hosts a number of weekly radio shows: Reel Discovery, Shelf Discovery, and On the Marquee. She’s also a proud member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association (CriticsChoice.com), the Central Ohio Film Critics Association (COFCA.org), the Online Film Critics Society (OFCS.org), and the Women Film Critics Circle (WFCC.Wordpress.com).
