Players: One or more
Playing Time: 5-20 minutes
You wouldn’t know it to look at it, but inside the packaging to Bop It Blast! lies one of the most frustratingly competitive toys or games you’ll ever come across. It only takes seconds to learn how to play, and picking it up is much easier than putting it down.
Even when reading the directions, it’s difficult to grasp how addictive this game can be. It’s incredibly simple—there are only three spots on the toy that you have to worry about. There’s the round Bop It button in the middle, and two attachments at the end…one to pull, and one to twist. Start up a game, and all you have to do is bop, pull, and twist the buttons and attachments when the game tells you to. The catch is that the game tells you to bop it, pull it, and twist it on a beat that gets faster and faster as you go.
There are three different game modes: solo, one-on-one, and pass it. They’re pretty much self-explanatory—in a solo game, you simply try to beat your own personal best score; one-on-one is for two players; and pass it is for two or more players. The game keeps track of the score for you, and let you know when you hit milestones like 100, 200, 300, and so on, so it’s easy to find yourself playing for hours trying to beat your best score.
Bob It Blast! is intended for kids ages 8 and up, but I’ll be honest—I’m 25 and I had fun with it. It’s a fun diversion, and can be a competitive game if you get really good at it.
