The mix on Bluestars is squeaky clean with a nice, heavy bass line, a great rhythm section, buttery vocals, sultry lyrics and some wonderful musicianship.
It opens with “Playhouse,” a mischievously sweet track. You may be familiar with “Your Body” and “Grind with Me,” both catchy tunes with a great beat. The unedited lyrics on these tracks absolutely sizzle. “Never Let You Go,” is impressive with a soft opening and great vocal harmonies throughout. There are a couple of sweet, romantic tracks laced in here as well like “Shorty Be Mine” and “Can’t Live Without You.”
This disc is absolutely steaming, kind of like what you’d imagine a guy version of Sadé singing hip hop might sound like. It’s probably not the type of music you’d want to listen to with your parents, kids or a first date, or even, as in my present case, alone. But it is indeed powerful stuff and a perfect listen for a chilly day.
