Want to try something different? How about some delightfully exotic Euro/African jazz blended with a touch of R&B and garnished with a sprig of techno/funk?
This disc is vibrant, colorful and extremely upbeat. The vocals are stellar and highlight a melodic mix of sounds, languages and harmonies. You may not understand many of the lyrics, but I can guarantee your feet will be tapping. The rhythm section is powerful with an extraordinary mix of percussion and the instrumentals are nothing short of incredible.
One of my favorite tracks, “Rafiki,” has a little bit of everything; from the hauntingly gorgeous intro, straight through to a musical feast of rhythm, wind and rap.
Fans of the band’s earlier releases, which were predominantly a cappella with strong African influences, will be pleasantly surprised by the R&B spin incorporated into A Ma Zone.
Zap Mama’s sound is constantly evolving and difficult not to fall in love with every single time. Whether on stage or in the studio, this multi-talented band always delivers the goods.
