This dual-disc set is packed with all your Davies brothers’ favorites. This is upbeat, all-purpose, classic rock– great for road trips, working out, dancing or just partying with friends.
To The Bone consists of a combination of acoustic studio recordings and some impeccably-mixed live numbers. The lyrics are lovely and the vocals are stellar. There’s some fine guitar work, a nice strong rhythm section and a perfect variation of themes.
The first disc includes “Muswell Hillbillies,” “Dedicated Follower of Fashion” and (my favorite) “Apeman,” all cheerful ditties with extremely funny lyrics. There is the sweet and catchy “Better Things” and a gorgeous acoustic version of “Do It Again.”
Disc two features (another personal favorite) the enchanting “Come Dancing,” and an absolutely sublime live version of the timeless masterpiece, “Lola.” “State of Confusion” has a nice beat and is followed by the bluesy “A Gallon of Gas.” Thankfully, they did not omit the charismatic “You Really Got Me.” The second disc closes with the title track, a perfect mixture of rock and blues.
To the Bone is perfect for any classic rock fan and an ideal listen to help you unwind after a long day.
