This soundtrack to the concert film is a raw and gritty final live recording by this hip-hop legend, accompanied by several highly reputable acts including Outlawz and Snoop Dogg.
The first portion of this album consists of nine tracks by Tupac, featuring Outlawz. “Tattoo Tears” is sweet and melodic with insightful but melancholy lyrics. “All About You” has a great beat and some beautiful, tightly-knit rap stylings. “Never Call U B#*!%h Again” is tender, romantic and very danceable. “Freek’n You” is an absolutely stunning a capella jam that segways smoothly into “How Do You Want It,” another danceable, upbeat track rich with stunning vocal harmonies. On both of the latter tracks Tupac is joined by K-Ci and JoJo.
The second half features Tha Dogg Pound, with Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Daz and Nate Dogg. Here we have a fine sampling of some truly engaging old-school jams. “Who Am I, (What’s My Name)” will suck you right in. “Gin and Juice” absolutely kicks it. Everything here is deliciously classic.
Live at the House of Blues is just one big gorgeous jam brimming with plenty of angst, passion and incredible talent. The language is colorful and it’s definitely not recommended for children under 12, the elderly or anyone with an asthmatic condition.
