The vocals are definitely the highlight of this work and they are magnificent. McKnight’s incredible range is seemingly effortless. Vocals aside, from keys to strings, this multi-talented artist does everything here. The music is bluesy and soulful and the musicianship is remarkable. The lyrics are romantic in a Marvin Gaye/Luther Vandross kind of way.
“On the Down Low” makes for the perfect hook with its charming intro and catchy beat. “Every Beat of My Heart” is a beautiful track with a soft, yet powerful, rhythm section and a gorgeously melodic flow. The title track is delightfully sweet, with a gorgeous bridge. Most of the tracks here are original, but McKnight’s interpretation of Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love” is stellar and features some gorgeous backup vocals (his own, no less).
I Remember You is a soft, relaxing listen and a nice way to wind down from the chaotic holiday season. It would perfectly complement a quiet dinner with good friends or a bubble bath with candles, a good book and a steaming cup of tea.
