After a not-so-long but definitely dull drive through a whole lot of nothin’, I’ve finally made it to Cleveland for the Cleveland International Film Festival.
The people at the hotel were nice enough to let me check in early, but, in return for showing up early, I was given a room that was formerly occupied by someone who didn’t have the best of hygiene. I’ve already tried spraying perfume around the place, but that wasn’t good enough — and, although the window has a screen on it, it seems to be stuck. So I’ll just have to deal with my stinky room for now.
This year, I’ll once again be joined in my weekend of insanity by Michael, who’s currently driving down from Michigan. The last I heard, he was still about a half hour out, which will give me a little bit of time to check in and work on a review of the audiobook that I finished during my drive.
Originally, I was thinking about making it to my first movie at 11:40 — but, since it’s currently 11:48, that’s not going to happen. Instead, I’ll wait for Michael to show up. Then we’ll grab a bite to eat while going through the schedule for the weekend.
Right now, I’m feeling horribly under-prepared. Usually, I have my schedule pretty much figured out by now. I know the times, locations, and details of everything I want to see. This year, I think I have one movie a day that I’m definitely seeing. Other than that, I’ve got a bunch of notes and some highlighted titles on my schedule. So this year will be even more of an adventure than usual.
Still, I’m excited to get back to the Tower. I’m looking forward to running into some old friends, and I’m looking forward to seeing some great movies. And I’ll be sure to report back when I can — so you, too, can share in another CIFF adventure.
