Read Time:2 Minute, 17 Second
Each weekend during the summer, moneyed Manhattanites flee the heat of the Big Apple and head for sun and fun at their posh summer homes in the Hamptons. For Tori Miller, though, the exodus wasn’t her idea—her best friends forced her to summer in the Hamptons.
For the past two years—since Peter, the love of her life, dumped her in a taxi on the way back from their friends’ wedding—Tori has hibernated in her apartment. She hasn’t gone out, she hasn’t eaten, and she’s rarely even washed her hair. But all that changes when her three closest friends ambush her with a fabulous reality TV makeover and a summer share in the Hamptons.
Suddenly, Tori’s entire life is transformed. She’s a completely new woman. And thanks to her seven housemates—including her fabulous new friend, Cassie—she’s a social butterfly. She even manages to snag herself a tall, rich, and handsome bachelor. But she soon discovers that nothing in the Hamptons is quite as it seems.
With its story revolving around Tori and the other seven mostly-strangers who are sharing a house for the summer, LoveHampton is a lot like a slightly more grown-up version of The Real World. Though it’s classier and more expensive, it’s every bit as booze-fueled and dishy. Despite the fact that the characters are thirty-something professionals (instead of irresponsible twenty-somethings), that doesn’t mean that they’ve got it all figured out. They still have a hard time accepting themselves, facing the truth, and communicating with those around them. And the result is a big, tangled, soap-opera-y mess of hook-ups and back-stabbing—which makes LoveHampton a whole lot of summer fun.
At the center of it all, there’s poor, confused Tori, whose life goes from a sad, pathetic mess to a fabulously frustrating mess in just a matter of weeks. Though she makes some truly stupid mistakes (mistakes that will sometimes make you stop reading and stare at the book in disbelief), she’s just so caught up in her newly remarkable life that she has no idea how to handle herself. And, really, who can blame her? While you’ll be frustrated by some of her stupid moves, you’ll also be able to relate to her insecurities and even her well-meaning indiscretions. You’ll feel the excitement—and even the embarrassment—right along with her. And you’ll be relieved when she finally comes to her senses.
Filled with twists and turns and plenty of glamorous and gossipy Hamptons drama, LoveHampton is a light and breezy summer read. Don’t head to the beach without it.
