As an actor, Nick Swardson has been around for a while, showing up in small parts of movies such as .nightsandweekends.com/articles/08/NW0800288.php>You Don’t Mess with the Zohan and Click. He’s even had a few reoccurring roles on TV, in shows such as Reno 911. While Nick is fun to watch as an actor, though, he’s just as entertaining to see as a comedian performing on his own.
Nick’s Comedy Central special, Seriously, Who Farted? is an overall enjoyable experience. As a speaker, his verbal intonation infuses a twist of Dane Cook and frat boy, which makes for an interesting execution of jokes. His jokes are, for the most part, well executed and universally entertaining. He discusses various topics, from the realities of online gaming to one day getting old—and it’s nice to see that there’s a little something in his show for everyone, though young adults will especially appreciate his humor.
Swardson does a pretty good job of keeping his audience engaged throughout the show with his use of personal stories, witty opinions, and his lively conversational style. He saves his best material for last, though, so be prepared to laugh yourself off the couch at the very end of the show.
As usual, Comedy Central takes a nosedive in the extras section of the DVD, which is incredibly disappointing yet again. There is a mildly entertaining movie parody—but, aside from that, the rest of the extras are skimpy at best and just not funny. I would rather not have extras on the DVD at all if they’re going to be so sickly. What about including some outtakes? Cuts from other stand-up shows? Interviews? Something? Anything?
Overall, though, Nick Swardson delivers a pleasant experience with his Comedy Central special. I’m looking forward to seeing what he comes up with next—but, until then, Seriously, Who Farted? is a fun stand-up special that makes a great addition to any DVD collection.
