You don’t hear too much about
the British Royal Family in the news anymore
since the death of The Princess of Wales
(save for Prince Harry running
around in a Nazi uniform). I confess that I love
reading about the Royal
Family. Of course, I loved reading about Diana and looking at
pictures of
her clothes and hairstyles. She was so glamorous. Sadly, after
her
untimely demise, there didn’t seem to be much to talk about, and
certainly
nothing to look at. But now the Royal Family is back in the news, and
I
am just rolling in the gossip.
The big thing in England is the
engagement of HRH The Prince of Wales to
Mrs. Camilla Parker Bowles. Seems the Church
of England is rather upset
that the heir to the throne is an adulterer. Seems no one
else cares. The Queen,
however, says Charles and Camilla cannot share the night
before their
wedding, and they have to tone down the lavish reception plans for fear
of
public backlash. Oh yeah – and Charles has been forbidden to serve
organic
vegetables grown at his Highgrove estate. Way to go, Your Majesty.
That’s
telling them. But I’d rethink that HRH title for Camilla. Seems
to me that would
generate a public outcry more than the organic vegetables
would, but I’m an American
and my thinking may be different.
And speaking of Camilla, it seems
that some supermarket chain in Britain
is going to be selling cheap knock-offs of
Camilla’s engagement ring on
the day of the wedding. They’re going to be selling
only 1,000 rings, so
get yours while they’re hot – only £19, or approximately US $36.
What a
deal. I know what I want for my birthday. And incidentally, did you know
that Camilla’s ring once belonged to the Queen Mother? I don’t know; that
doesn’t
sit right with me. Get your own ring, Camilla. Remember: What the Royal Family giveth,
the Royal Family can taketh away.
I, for one, am so looking forward to
the wedding. Unfortunately, Prime
Minister Blair said he wouldn’t make April 8 a
national bank holiday in
honor of the wedding, so I suppose it won’t be televised
either.
Hopefully, there will be lots of photos in the magazines and on the Internet.
I
can’t wait to see what everyone is wearing. This is so exciting. Just
think –
soon we can look at pictures of Camilla performing her royal duties
and admire her
clothes and hairstyles.
I don’t know if the invitations have gone out
yet – and I haven’t heard
anything about a bridal shower – but I’m sure my
invitation will be arriving
any time. I already have something on April 8, so I will
have to
decline. I only hope the royal couple will understand.
